Hashima (respect), RE: a short stint of guided study/research around our melanin based battery project At the *Black Open University* (BOU) we have some ground-breaking long-term research and development projects. Two of them focus into exploring the possibilities of *melanin based battery technology.* Due to current CV19 circumstances and other reasons progress have been somewhat slowed however an opportunity has arisen to engage the UK's leading science and technology agency in our project. I am writing here to *share that opportunity with young people who have strong interests in STEM learning (science, technology, engineering and maths)* to engage with this BOU project and scientist from the leading agency mentioned. This learning engagement is not defined by us as a course, it may simply be a short stint of guided study/research and one or more dynamic opportunities to discuss project advancing questions with specialists in *neutron diffraction.* This science is relatively advanced for most young people (and adults) however it is *the function of the Unifiedknowledge pedagogy (approach to education)* to make such fields of knowledge accessible, therefore this learning engagement opportunity is open to young people aged from 8 to 19 (with strong interests in STEM learning and family directed learning support). We will: 1) Introduce the melanin based battery project to the cadet (young learner and their primary educative family), also introducing the precursor project it relates to. 2) Provide direction and some opening research reference points. 3) Create a space for communication with scientist involved in neutron diffraction around its relationships to possibilities of melanin based battery technology. Please note: 1) this is not a course, it is a specific opportunity that relates to our Level Being 9 learning programme that we are currently able to open up for broader access. Self determination in family directed learning is required, the BOU will support this. 2) the cohort of cadets who worked on this got to the stage of prototyping a melanin based battery, they will be encouraged to share their experience and lead in peer-mentoring new learners. See eflyer and prototype pic here - https://archive.peoplescience.org.uk/index.php?dir=info-for-community/learning-resources/Melanin-Battery/ I am happy to answer any questions and explore this opportunity further with all Ones with interest.
